Getting ready for his scope procedure (this picture was taken after he was poked 3 times unsuccessfully for an IV)
Showing of his new cast
Well, our summer didn't quite start out like I had planned but slowly it is getting better. We started out our summer with Payton getting a stomach bug. After a couple days of not eating much or drinking much he ended up having a hypoglycemic episode and we found him lying in the hallway one morning and after hearing him scream about his tummy hurting, he went unresponsive. We had to call 911 and he was quickly taken to the hospital where they discovered his sugar levels were super low. After some glucose in an IV he bounced back fairly quickly. After that he continued to throw up about every 36 hrs but was in good spirits and ate and drank normally. We had to go see a pediatric endocrinologist to discuss his episode and she just chalked it up to the fasting he had done when he didn't feel well.
Showing of his new castSince we were in the doctor mode we decided to talk to a pediatric gastroenterologist to discuss the fact that Payton throws up so much. He never gets any normal sicknesses like ear infections, strep, etc... just always gets stomach bugs or just throws up and goes about his day. He had acid reflux when he was a baby and they think it could be that again. He had a scope done down his throat on Monday and they found some irritation in his esophagus. Today he had a stomach ultrasound to check out the organs and make sure they are all working properly. Hopefully, tomorrow we should have some answers from the ultrasound. If they don't find anything that could be causing the irritation in his esophagus from the ultrasound, they will do an xray of his upper GI. Hopefully we can have some answers soon and make him more comfortable.
While going through all of these doctor appointments, Payton managed to fall down a few stairs at the neighbors house and hurt his wrist. He seemed to be ok after that and used his wrist that night but then the next night he fell on it again and was in a bit more pain. He calmed down and again there was no swelling and he was using it so I thought it was ok. The next morning he fell while walking Sami and chipped his tooth and fell on his wrist AGAIN!! We had to make a trip to the dentist and all was ok with his tooth other than the obvious chip:) On Thursday when we woke up his arm was a little swollen so I decided to call the pediatrician and hopefully spare myself a trip the ER. She had us come in and as soon as she felt his arm she said it was broken and sent us up for xrays. The xrays showed he had a buckle fracture in his left arm. On Friday we went to the orthopedic and luckily he only needed a brace as long as he could keep it on. He is doing much better at keeping it on and not complaining. We go back on July 9th for more xrays and hopefully a clean bill of health.
So, again not the best start to our summer vacation but I am thankful this all happened while I was off of work so I could be there for him. Here's to hoping July and August are sickness and accident free!
